'The Vision
Behind Art Mistake'

:am_a creator of visual content and audiovisual experiences.
Driven by storytelling, my work centers on visual art sound and design — including graphic and web design, video, and image production.
Art Mistake is a space where expression flows freely — a multidisciplinary platform where visuals, sound, and movement blend into something that feels alive. Founded by audiovisual artist Su Eko, Art Mistake is not just a studio — it’s a constantly evolving body of work, shaped by emotion, narrative, and experimentation.

THE BEGINNING
It all began in Lisbon, where Su Eko’s love for drawing and painting sparked an early fascination with the visual world. — leading her to study and work between Lisbon and London, where she specialized in media, editorial, SFX, and cinema. At 20, she joined the makeup team for Lisbon Fashion Week.

IN BLOSSOM
A deep passion for art led her to travel the world through her work. In 2007, she was based in New York, later moving to Paris, where she spent a decade nurturing her creativity and refining her unique style.
Su Eko’s makeup work is recognized for its seamless blends, fresh complexions, elegant lines, and the striking contrast of sophisticated grunge in her signature smoky eyes.

PARIS JE T'AIME
Emerging in the French capital, Su Eko collaborated with renowned photographers such as Isabelle Chapuis, Jonathan Segade, Michèle Bloch-Stuckens, Thomas Lavelle, Anthony Parmelee, among others.
Her work has been featured in fashion magazines including L’Officiel, Elle, Numéro, Jalouse, Blink, Shoes Up, L’Edito, Edit, Kurv, Clear, Pure, and more. She also contributed to campaigns for Benetton, CosmoParis, Microsoft, Berenice, and La Loop and on the catwalks of Paris and Lisbon Fashion Week.
IN TO THE GLAMOUR
In 2012, Su Eko was represented by Carol Hayes Agency in London and Yumikoto in Paris. That same year, she stepped into Paris Fashion Week as the lead makeup designer for Lee Young and Jean Luc Amsler’s Fall/Winter 2012/13 Paris Couture shows.
She was also part of Aaron de Mey’s makeup team for Saint Laurent‘s Fall/Winter 2013/14 Paris Fashion Week, and later joined Daniel Sallstrom’s team for Madonna’s music video ‘Medellín’.
Su Eko has also worked with international celebrities including Jerry Hall, Lindsay Lohan, John Glover, Zelda Williams, Camille Rowe, and Andrej Pejić.
But glamour was never the goal. It was just a passage — one that expanded her vision while revealing the industry's contradictions. Over time, she moved beyond the limitations of the beauty world, using what she’d learned to develop a voice that was more personal, more layered, and more subversive.

MUSIC SPEAKS
Deeply connected to music, Su Eko channels a bold and fierce romanticism — a paradoxical blend of fragility and strength — that led her to emerge in the underground scene as a music producer, lead vocalist, and bassist for Velvet Kills, a Synth-Glam-Punk duo.
The band’s 2017 release Mischievous Urges (Unknown Pleasures Records, Oráculo Records) was named one of the best Portuguese albums of the year by Radio Radar.

SOUND + VIDEO
Their 2020 follow-up Bodhi Labyrinth (Icy Cold Records, Manic Depression Records, Unknown Pleasures Records) launched just before the global lockdown. The release was supported by videos like ‘Bitch Face’ (directed by Alan Deprez) and ‘In the Gold Mine’ (co-directed by Fotoplasta and Art Mistake), showcasing the visual storytelling central to Su Eko’s process.

COVERS + REMIXES
In 2021, Velvet Kills released BL Re-Imagine, featuring remixes by Bjoerlin, Lola Zaza, Anyer Quantum, and Chris Shape. That same year, they contributed the track ‘Blood Money’ to the tribute compilations Honoris II: A Tribute to Sisters of Mercy and Sisterhood (Unknown Pleasures Records) and ‘Spellbound’ on Icon: Tribute to Siouxsie and the Banshees (Infrastition).
“Awakening the labyrinth of our minds to be freed from hate, greed and ego
this album brings us to the reality of our actual society.
The messages come coded in Sarcasm, Euphemism, hyperbole and Irony digging into the files of a lonely civilisation and question the purpose of life vs government structures, where we 'Cash and Move' and love is forgotten.
Inside the 'Noise' of the apocalyptic war, a 'Hangover Calling' to the universe to rise humans to a higher state of positive vibration. 'The Key' is Love."

chris shape + su eko

collaboration

Their 2024 EP Parallel Visions was released on Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, accompanied by the single ‘Nada’. The video passed 31,000 views within weeks.
